We are recruiting for a highly motivated individual that recognizes the importance of quality drinking water, maintenance of the plant, and looking to the future.

Our Water Treatment Program consists of:  20 MGD conventional surface water treatment plant, 13 remote booster pump stations and 8 reservoir sites.


We are accepting applications for a Water Treatment Plant Specialist I or II  and placement will depend on incumbents qualifications, skills and experience.


The primary duties of this position are performing daily operations and maintenance of the water treatment plant, lift stations and pump stations.  Specialists perform preventative maintenance, equipment repair, construction, sampling and analyzing processes to determine regulatory compliance and compiling computer based data and files, interpreting regulations and performing customer service and fabrication.

**Interview date for selected candidates is scheduled for December 20, 2019.**

This position is covered in the Teamster bargaining unit and incumbents must live within a 30 minute drive of the regularly assigned work site.

The Grants Pass City Council has made building a new water treatment plant its number one priority for the past two years. Staff and the Council have worked alongside each other for the past 18 months to make a number of significant decisions to ensure the project will be delivered to the growing community. The new water treatment plant will be a state of the art facility providing clean water, security and value to the community for decades to come. This historic project will be the focus of activity for the water department for the next several years.

 Minimum Qualifications:
Water Treatment Plant Specialist I:
Salary Range: $19.66 to $24.87 per hour

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with additional coursework in chemistry, biology or science preferred.  An Associate's degree in a related field is desirable. 

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Oregon Driver's License Class C

  • Forklift Certificate required within 12 months of appointment

  • OHA-DWP Water Treatment I Certificate within 18 months of appointment

Water Treatment Plant Specialist II:

Salary Range: $21.13 to $26.74per hour


A High School Diploma or equivalent, with additional coursework in chemistry, biology, or science preferred, and 2 years of related experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.  An Associate's Degree in a related field is preferred.

Licensing Requirements:

  • Valid Oregon Driver's License Class C

  • Forklift Certificate

  • OHA-DWP Water Treatment II Certificate or higher

  • Confined Space Entrant or Attendant Certificate
